Recipe for Lasagne alla Bolognese

 

Lasagne alla Bolognese


Ingredients:


1 pound of lasagne noodles

1/2 pound of ground beef

1/2 pound of ground pork

1/2 cup of diced pancetta or bacon

1 large onion, finely chopped

2 cloves of garlic, minced

2 carrots, finely chopped

2 stalks of celery, finely chopped

1 cup of dry red wine

2 cups of canned crushed tomatoes

1 cup of beef or chicken broth

2 tablespoons of tomato paste

1/4 cup of heavy cream

1/4 cup of chopped fresh parsley

1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese

Salt and pepper to taste

2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese


Instructions:


Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).


Cook the lasagne noodles according to the package instructions until they are al dente.


In a large saucepan, cook the pancetta or bacon over medium heat until it is browned and crispy.


Add the ground beef and pork to the saucepan and cook until it is browned and cooked through.


Add the chopped onion, garlic, carrots, and celery to the saucepan and sauté until the vegetables are tender, about 5-7 minutes.


Pour the dry red wine into the saucepan and simmer until the liquid has reduced by half.


Add the canned crushed tomatoes, beef or chicken broth, and tomato paste to the saucepan and stir to combine.


Simmer the Bolognese sauce over low heat for at least 1 hour, stirring occasionally, until it is thick and flavorful.


Stir in the heavy cream, chopped parsley, and grated Parmesan cheese, and season the sauce with salt and black pepper to taste.


In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a layer of the Bolognese sauce on the bottom.


Top the sauce with a layer of cooked lasagne noodles.


Add another layer of the Bolognese sauce on top of the lasagne noodles, followed by a layer of shredded mozzarella cheese.


Repeat the layering process with the remaining lasagne noodles, Bolognese sauce, and mozzarella cheese, until you have used all the ingredients.


Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake the lasagne for 25 minutes.


Remove the foil from the baking dish and bake the lasagne for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.


Remove the lasagne from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.
